Let's get one thing straight. KopSkudFM wasn't born in a boardroom, approved by a marketing department, or designed to fit neatly into some corporate playlist. It came from a simple idea, a genuine love for music, and a big, unapologetic FUCK YOU to the mainstream.
Not because we hate everything mainstream media stands for. Not because we're sitting in a dark corner, shaking our fists at commercial radio and waiting for the world to burn. And definitely not because we think we're better than anyone else.
No. It's a different kind of middle finger.
It's a FUCK YOU, WATCH THIS! kind of attitude.
I'm Bees Hanekom, the driving force and creator behind KopSkudFM — a platform built on the belief that music shouldn't need permission to exist, that culture shouldn't have to pass through a corporate filter, and that musicians shouldn't have to change who they are just to fit somebody else's idea of what's marketable.
Somewhere along the line, the music industry became obsessed with numbers, trends, algorithms, commercial appeal, and playing it safe. Meanwhile, countless incredible artists, underground bands, alternative musicians, punk rockers, metalheads, and independent creators were left fighting for a little space in a world that often measures music by its profit potential rather than its passion.
And that never sat right with me.
Why should a song be considered less worthy because it doesn't fit a playlist? Why should a band be overlooked because its sound is too loud, too different, too alternative, too controversial, or simply too damn honest?
Music is culture. Music is identity. Music is rebellion, expression, heartbreak, anger, hope, and everything in between. It doesn't belong to a marketing department. It belongs to the people who make it and the people who feel it.
